Senator Wright was elected to the Senate in 2018 and represents Senate District 14, which consists of parts of Brevard and Volusia Counties. He currently serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security and serves on six additional committees. He is also proud to serve as Co Chair of the Florida Space Caucus and the Florida Manufacturing Caucus, and is an appointed member of the Florida Defense Support Task Force.
As Senator, his priorities have included supporting Florida’s veteran populations, improving our state’s water quality, and striving to protect Floridians through consumer protection and prescription drug transparency initiatives.
Throughout his personal life, Senator Wright has dedicated his time and effort to assist with affordable housing for the homeless, and to eliminate the domestic abuse of women, children and animals. He also owns companies in Minnesota that manufacture and distribute air-supplied respiratory protection equipment. As a State Senator, he strives to make a positive difference in our great State of Florida.
As Florida’s Secretary of Commerce and the President & CEO of Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI), Jamal Allen Sowell leads EFI, the principal economic development organization for the state of Florida. He assumed his role at the outset of Governor Ron DeSantis’s administration. With his team, Sowell works closely with economic development partners and private sector businesses across the state to strengthen and diversify Florida’s economy. Sowell sets the course for an organization that spans the entire state and commands a strong international presence, as EFI strategically negotiates Florida’s partnerships in international commerce.
U.S. Army Col. (Ret.) Derrick Fishback knows firsthand the importance of improving servicemembers’ transition out of the military after going through the process twice. Stationed in Pensacola and nearing retirement, Derrick learned about DOD SkillBridge and used it to enroll in an IBM fellowship to gain hands-on experience as an IT Program Manager. The opportunity helped him land a career at Amazon Web Services and now he wants to ensure all servicemembers take advantage of the programs’ benefits by bringing awareness to SkillBridge — a program he calls, “a stepping stone to where you want to go.”
U.S. Army Master Sgt. (Ret.) Scott Neil was one of the first Green Berets on the ground in Afghanistan following 9/11 whose story was featured in the New York Times bestseller Horse Soldiers and its film adaptation 12 Strong. Planning to start a business with his fellow horse soldiers during his transition out of the military, Scott entered the Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program to develop a business plan and gain valuable insight on how to become a successful veteran entrepreneur. Scott went on to co-found American Freedom Distillery, which today is known to whiskey drinkers for their signature award-winning Horse Soldier Bourbon.
